M-Modules™ - ANSI Standard Confirmed for Another 10 Years!

Whether in the fields of measuring, automation and vehicle control, robotics or ground and sea transportation - M-Modules™ are used as simple-to-build but powerful I/O mezzanine cards for an unlimited variety of applications. The uncomplicated interface and easy configuration functions allow a fast development and cost-effective production of modules even in small quantities.

Resulting from the demand for a modular, flexible and therefore economical I/O system, M-Modules™ have been developed in 1988 as one of the first mezzanine I/O systems. Originally invented by MEN, the M-Module™ specification was accepted by other manufacturers. M-Modules™ became an ANSI standard in 1997 (ANSI/VITA 12).

Sales figures for MEN M-Modules™ show that they are still used for individual I/O functions. Over the years, the figures have remained stable and almost on the same level as at the time when the standard was introduced, which means they still represent 5% of MEN's total revenues.

So it is not surprising that the 15-year-old M-Module™ standard has been confirmed as an ANSI standard for another 10 years.

MEN still believes in the small all-rounders and brings M-Modules™ into the next decade with the help of a new VMEbus SBC. Equipped with a Freescale™ PowerPC® QorIQ™ processor, it will offer space for a total of 3 M-Modules™. There will be more information soon in future news.
