Shipboard Command Desk
Command desks on ships use computer systems to control and monitor the engines and electric propulsion, electrical and hydraulic systems, navigation, communication and integrated platform management systems. These computers are based on modular 19" systems like 3U CompactPCI using standard COTS components.
The single board computer F18 inside the CompactPCI system is based on Intel Core 2 Duo architecture with two 64-bit processors and state-of-the-artPC interfaces like Ethernet and USB. It comes with an extension card F603 with additional USB and COM interfaces. The system also features two connections to analog displays. The 8 CAN bus interfaces are integrated using PMC modules. Data storage is realized on SSD drives for up to 80 GB and SATA DVDs for up to 500 GB.
A similar application uses 6U VMEbus COTS boards based on PowerPC architecture, combined with ANSI standard M-Module mezzanine cards for the integration of analog and binary I/Os and temperature measurement.
Operating temperature of these kind of systems varies from 0 to +60°C and can go up to -40 to +85°C.
Standard Components Used in this Example
The F18 is a 3U CompactPCI SBC equipped with the Intel Core 2 Duo T7500.
The F603 is a 4HP mixed USB/COM extension card for 3U Intel based CompactPCI single-board computers. It can be used in combination with the F14 and compatible CPU boards.
