New Intel® i7-based SBC added to scalable CompactPCI Serial family

Based on the fourth generation Intel Core i7 CPU, the new CompactPCI Serial G23 is the latest SBC that follows the same I/O interface assignment and front plate design as previous boards in MEN’s scalable SBC family. This enables existing systems to be easily upgraded using the latest CompactPCI Serial technology, dramatically extending a system’s life cycle.

G23 - Intel Core i7 4th gen CPU Board
  • Intel® Core™ i7, 4th generation
  • Up to 16 GB DDR3 DRAM soldered, ECC
  • mSATA and microSD™ card slots
  • Standard front I/O: 2 DisplayPorts, 2 Gb Ethernet, 2 USB 3.0
  • Standard rear I/O: 7 PCIe®, 8 USB 2.0, 2 USB 3.0, 5 SATA, DisplayPort®/HDMI
  • Rear I/O via mezzanine board: up to 8 Gigabit Ethernet
  • Intel® Turbo Boost, Hyper-Threading, AMT 9.0
  • Open CL support

Future-safe through family concept

The single board G23 comes standard with a fourth generation Intel Core i7 processor, with the option to use the fifth generation. Performance is scalable up to the i7 CPU with a 3.4 GHz turbo boost frequency. The G23 offers up to 16 GB of firmly soldered DDR3 DRAM and the front I/O comprises two DisplayPorts, two Gb Ethernet and two USB 3.0 interfaces.

The new CPU board is the third in a family of CompactPCI Serial SBCs having the same fit, form and function. Other interchangeable SBCs that support the same interfaces and can be easily exchanged with the latest SBC from MEN include the G22 processor board, equipped with a third generation Intel i7, and the G20 using the first i7 generation.

The upgradeable CompactPCI family concept began with the Pentium M-based F14 and has continued up to the CompactPCI PlusIO-based F23P (also equipped with the fourth, or optionally, the fifth, generation i7).

For its CompactPCI and CompactPCI Serial families, MEN is relying on Intel’s tried and tested mobile series CPUs. To ensure the CPUs will withstand harsh, demanding environmental conditions and to ensure they are resilient enough for the transportation market, they must incorporate a robust design as well as provide guaranteed long-term component availability, which means at least 10 years in the railway market.

Due to the scalability of the CompactPCI and CompactPCI Serial family, existing systems can forever be equipped with the latest processor platform and are therefore protected from component obsolescence.

To meet rugged application requirements, these CompactPCI boards from MEN withstand vibration, shock, dust and humidity, use advanced cooling concepts to operate in an extended temperature range of -40 to +85°C and conform to market specific norms, like EN 50155 for railways.
