Nominated as IRIS Auditor: Efstratios Petrellis, Director of Quality Management
For Efstratios Petrellis, this is already the third nomination as auditor and lead auditor. In addition to the IRIS standard, he is also carrying out EN 9100 (aerospace) and ISO 9001 (quality management) audits for certification bodies like DQS GmbH, LRQA, TÜV SÜD and DNV GL. MEN as a company is also certified to both standards and therefore benefits from this rare combination of EN 9100 and IRIS.
The in-depth knowledge Petrellis has gleaned from his work as auditor, and the exchange with other auditors for quality management systems associated with that, also helps MEN to keep their own processes always at the highest level. The company’s certifications therefore also include the compliance with SIL 4 and DAL-A safety levels for the railway and avionic market, and extend well beyond the required mandatory points.
To guarantee this high level of quality, a new team at MEN is dedicated to the improvement of the processes. This includes topics like supplier management with regard to delivery time or number of defect components, discontinuation and life cycle management or the improvement of the first article inspection. In general, the company wants to be “leaner” and streamline the processes to achieve shorter cycle times in development and production.
Petrellis considers his commitment as an auditor as his contribution to support and furthermore strengthen MEN as a company. “MEN’s quality management has always been among the best in our industry. But due to our company size we haven’t been perceived as a leader. It is my motivation to take MEN forward by constantly achieving the best results within certifications”, says Petrellis.
The next personal goal of Petrellis is the aerospace certification according to EN/AS9100 for the subsidiary in the US. This includes also the admission to the requirements of EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) respectively FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) – Part 21, Part 145 and ETSO (European Technical Standard Order), which define additional conditions for the development and shipping in the aerospace market.
