Embedded Marine Electronics

Mission-Critical Marine Computers for Harsh Environmental Conditions

Rugged marine electronics for vital functions

More Info on Marine Electronics

GLC (German Lloyd Certification)

Whether cargo ships, passenger ships or yachts – modern vessels are directly controlled by computer systems which are connected to each other and have to withstand harsh environmental conditions like extreme temperatures or salt water.

This is why naval computer solutions from MEN are very robust. They have an operating temperature of -40 to +85°C, they withstand humidity up to IP67 and can be prepared to meet the requirements of a GLC (German Lloyd Certification). Methods of testing and required test results in accordance with IEC 60945 may be necessary for specific solutions like navigation systems.

Marine electronics for vital functions, e.g. the command desk or machine control, can be based on robust and flexible 19-inch systems like CompactPCI or CompactPCI Serial as well as on rugged box and display computers. While mission-critical computers are typically networked by fieldbusses like CAN bus, for example, communication between vessels or ship-to-land communication is based on different wireless standards which have to comply with NMEA 0183 (e.g. GPS for ECDIS Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems).

Dynamic information systems inform passengers on the current traffic and weather conditions, tour destinations and delays. Access points are required for Internet access or connection to the telephone network. Content servers and video recorders may store movies or camera data from surveillance systems.
